About The United Deist Church

     The United Deist Church is a group of individuals from across the world who are dedicated to the spread of Deism, the concept of Equality and Freedom of speech, and granting to Deists the opportunity to participate in Religious community while not compromising the independence of Reason and thought that is the heart of Deism. We stand in opposition to the concept that you need someone else to tell you about God. God and his Creation are evident to human reason by studying the Universe. We reject the concept that you need a holy book to guide your belief in God. All you need is an ability to Reason, a desire to explore the Creation, and your own personal experiences.

     We are a different form of Church in that, so long as you accept a few basic tenets of Deism, no one will dictate to you about the Nature of God, Purpose of the Universe, or your place in it. All of that is up to you to explore and decide. We will help you and journey with you in that exploration.

     As a whole, (but not entirely) we Deists have come to see the religions of Revelation (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc.) have come to represent great evil and atrocity. From the crusades to our recent horrific reminder on September 11th, 2003, believing God is on your side has allowed humans to unleash great evil upon our world. Are we saying all adherents of these religions are evil? No we are not. But these religions of Revelation grant to their adherents a way to justify such actions as being in the “hands of God” and feel no responsibility for them. We stand against that, and we stand against the religions that enable such atrocity.

     Believing in a holy book, or what someone else tells you about God is unnecessary, and makes you less than you have the potential to be. Each and every one of us has the ability to use Reason to come to a personal understanding of God and his Creation. Each and every one of us has the ability to help others by sharing our personal beliefs, debating and defending those beliefs using Reason. Think about God, and decide what you believe for yourself! We are here to help you, to be your sounding board, just as we desire you to be ours.

     And while it is good to visit and discuss with us in our forum, it is even better to find like-minded people in your local area with whom you can discuss and share your ideas and beliefs. Form a local group and become affiliated with the UDC. Join our community of churches! We are also here to help you do that. A local group can provide what no online community can, personal fellowship, support, and friendship. A local church can provide support, not only in your exploration of Deism, but also in life. Think of all the positive, community-building aspects of the modern concept of a Church, and take away all of the dogma and dictatorial theology…and you have our concept of a Deist Church.
