CDL: The Industry Standard for a Successful Career
Why is CDL so Important?
We all know that the CDL jobs are booming. The demand for drivers has never been higher, and this creates a great opportunity for people who are looking to get into the trucking business. For many people, getting their CDL license will be an important first step in making sure they have a successful career in the industry. There are a few reasons that this is the case.
First of all, it’s important to note that there are different types of license required for those who want to be professional drivers in the US. In order to drive commercial trucks or vehicles with more than 16 passengers, you will need a Class A CDL. For smaller passenger vehicles and also school buses, you will need a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) instead of your regular driver’s license. The good news is that if you already have an existing CDL from another state (or even country), then most states recognize the other licenses as well! So if you come across someone looking for their “CDLA” – they mean both their Class A CDL and their CLP.
Secondly, the reason that having a Class A license is so important for making sure you have a successful career in trucking has to do with the kind of training and experience you need before applying for jobs at reputable companies. Many employers will require drivers to get endorsements on their commercial driver’s licenses which means they must also have passenger (or school bus) and airbrake trainings as well – all things that are included when getting your class A CDL! You can read more about it here:
Thirdly, one other big advantage of having an existing driving job under your belt already is that if you plan on being hired by one of these reputable companies then there’s a good chance you’ll be required to have either one or two years of experience before they will consider hiring you.
